Who are the HAMasters?
We are the High Altitude Masters Swim Team of Santa Fe and have been organized as United States Masters Swimming (USMS) club team since 2005. Membership is open to adults 18 years and older. Our preferred home pool has traditionally been Salvador Perez. Over the years our team has moved from the various public pools in Santa Fe due various and numerous repairs to Salvador Perez Pool and Facility, seasonal user group schedules and opportunities to incorporate summer outdoor swim sessions. We have a lead coach along with variety of volunteer swim coaches. Our team roster ranges from 40 to 65 members. Our morning sessions tend to have higher attendance compared to evening and noon sessions. Base swim skill would be an intermediate level swimmer up to experienced competitor. At this time we do not have space allotment for an Adult Beginner swimmer, but could also refer you to group or one-on-one swim instruction.
What is U.S. Masters Swimming?
U.S. Masters Swimming is a national membership nonprofit that provides membership benefits to nearly 60,000 Masters swimmers across the country. These benefits include insurance, SWIMMER magazine, sanctioned events, and more. USMS and its 52 Local Masters Swimming Committees (LMSCs) provide direct support to more than 1,200 Masters Swimming clubs and workout groups. Structure and organization of USMS programs vary and are driven by factors such as pool availability, instructor or coach availability, community support, and finances. The majority of locations offering Masters Swimming clubs have coaches on deck. Coaches write workouts and provide feedback and instruction. The word Masters was first applied to adults who participated in track and field and was later adopted in organized adult swimming. In swimming, Masters simply means 18 and older.
